Epoxy Resin
Resins Repair and Reinforcement Solutions
Resins play an important role in hull repairs and reconstruction, offering a particularly effective solution for reinforcing glass reinforced polyester. Resins should be selected according to the type of work to be done. The two main types of resins, epoxy and polyester resins, offer solutions for different needs.
Epoxy Resin
Areas of Use: Epoxy resin is suitable for laminate repairs and bonding and lamination of high-strength elements above and below the waterline.
Advantages: High strength, excellent adhesion and high resistance to water damage. It also increases durability thanks to its water-repellent properties.
Polyester Resin
Areas of Use: Polyester resin is preferred for fast and aesthetic mechanical repairs. It is suitable for lamination and repairs above the water line.
Advantages: Lower price, fast drying/hardening time, low exothermic peak and easier processing. However, it is more suitable for components that do not require high strength and for aesthetic repairs.
Both resin types offer advantages for different repair and reinforcement needs. Epoxy resin is ideal for applications seeking durability and water resistance, while polyester resin is preferred for fast and economical solutions.
